Launceston has many good churches
We want to make something clear: we love that Launceston has a number of faithful churches!
We thank God for the many congregations across Launceston where the Bible is opened and taught, Jesus is faithfully preached, and people are encouraged to believe in and follow him. Although churches differ in denomination, theology, style and practice, we are thankful to God that there are many faithful churches who share the good news of Jesus and serve their local communities.
Churches aren’t in competition with each other, we’re all one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:28). We would love to see more people come to know Jesus, more Christians strengthened in their faith, and more local communities served by healthy churches.
Why did we plant another church in Launceston?
Grace Presbyterian Church began five years ago. We begun because we saw that people in Launceston and the wider area needed the good news of Jesus and the hope of eternal life (Titus 1:2).
In 2019, a group of Presbyterian churches in northern Tasmania began praying and working towards planting a new church. God led us to have a heart for the south west corners of Launceston, Hadspen, and nearby towns in the Meander Valley and Northern Midlands. It’s an area with many thousands of people in need of Christ.
Grace began meeting for weekly worship in a lounge room in early 2021. Later that year, we moved into the Hadspen Memorial Centre and began holding public Sunday services.
We wanted to see a new Christian church that would speak about and live out God’s grace in Jesus.

What kind of church is Grace?
We often describe Grace as a Bible-teaching, Jesus-preaching and warm-hearted church.
We are Bible-teaching because we believe the Bible is God’s Word for us today. Each Sunday we read it together and spend time hearing a passage explained and applied to our lives.
We are Jesus-preaching because Christianity is ultimately good news about him. Jesus lived, died and rose again to bring forgiveness and new life to sinners. Knowing him is at the heart of the Christian faith.
We want to be warm-hearted because God’s grace creates a new community. Church is not simply an event to attend, God makes us into a people who love one another. It is a people who worship God, grow together in Christ and witness to him in word and deed.
Grace is also a Presbyterian church. We belong to the Presbyterian Church of Tasmania and share its historic Reformed understanding of the Christian faith. You can read more about what we believe.
What should you look for in a church?
Every church has its own feel, but some things matter much more than style, music or the size of the congregation.
Look for a church where:
- The Bible is treated as God’s inspired Word and is read and carefully explained.
- Jesus and his saving work are central.
- People gather to worship God through Scripture, prayer, singing and the sacraments.
- Christians are encouraged to grow in faith, love and obedience.
- Leaders are godly, and committed to caring for God’s people.
- People genuinely care and serve one another.

Grace Presbyterian Church meets every Sunday at 3:00 pm at the Hadspen Memorial Centre, 1A Clare Street, Hadspen, about 10 minutes from central Launceston.
Our service runs for approximately one hour and includes Bible readings, prayer, singing and a sermon. We celebrate the Lord’s Supper monthly. People of every age and background are welcome, including those with no previous church experience.
During school terms, afternoon tea is followed by Gospel Training for adults and children. Gospel Training is a relaxed half-hour discussion about the Bible and following Jesus in everyday life.
